Two limits, written down
Before any rummy table opens — club, home or digital — the editorial desk recommends writing two limits on a single piece of paper:
- A hard time limit. For example, "the table closes at 10pm regardless of the score." Let one person at the table track the time for everyone.
- A hard money limit. For example, "the session ends if I lose more than ₹500 or win more than ₹1000." The same piece of paper holds both numbers.
Keep the paper on the table. When either limit is reached, the table closes for the evening. The paper is the contract.
Warning signs
The editorial desk treats the following as warning signs — for the reader, not for the regulator:
- Reaching for a missed session "to win back" the previous loss.
- Borrowing to top up a platform wallet.
- Lying about the size of the loss to family.
- Skipping work or appointments to keep a table open.
- Using the rummy app as a response to anxiety, boredom or sleeplessness.
Two or more of these signs is a clear signal to close the account and call a support line.
